Hello! I’m Janet
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I started my career working with pregnant teens, homeless families, families with newborns, then with court appointed juveniles. Most recently, before starting Private Practice, Iworked with people impacted by cancer. I believe that trauma comes in all shapes, sizes and forms and that most of us primarily want to feel that we are not alone. That is how I approach counseling – as a path I will move along with each individual client. I believe strongly in client self-determination and appreciate the diversity and uniqueness of each client and their communities.
I utilize a variety of techniques and approaches depending on where you’re at, what your focus is, and how you want to grow and change. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Approach, Psycho-education, and Systems Perspective along with Gestalt and Client-centered approaches are my most commonly used approaches. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and I love helping people be true to their authentic selves. I believe in using art, writing, self-talk, and play for developing confidence and self-esteem. I have a passion for working with parents and kids to communicate in healthier ways and to help them understand the different life stages in which they live. I also believe in the power of words and writing and am always asking, “Have you journaled about that?” or “Will you write a letter about that?” I am committed to continuously improving and expanding my knowledge and tool kits through education and experience and am proud to say I learn from my clients on a daily basis.
I believe so much in the power of color, art, and creativity that I recently completed a certification to be an Art Therapy Practitioner. I’d love to help you find your colorful, playful self.
I’m a dog mom and I believe our pets bring all kinds of benefits to our health. They give us a reason to get out of bed in the mornings; a reason to have a routine; a way to feel good about what we are providing to them – food, safety, comfort, love, etc. If we do therapy together, you’ll see my dogs. Yes, even though it’s teletherapy, you’ll see and hear my dogs. It’s a long story how I ended up with 5 (I never planned to be THAT dog lady) but each one came to me in a different way, for a different reason, and they all belong with me and our mostly canine family. They are all small, so they don’t take up much room, and I feel like there is always room for more!

My Approach & Values
I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and human. I strive to create an inclusive, non-judgmental space for all my clients. I am passionate about equality, advocacy and awareness.
I began my career in nonprofit agencies that support pregnant and parenting teens, homeless families, and domestic violence survivors. I spent time working to prevent dating violence by educating and empowering teens to understand healthy relationship dynamics, consent, and communication. Some of my most fulfilling work was with court-appointed juveniles and also people impacted by cancer. I believe every role and every nonprofit, especially every client, prepared me for the intensive, one on one work that private practice allows me to do now.
I’ve worked with many people who experienced trauma in their childhood and believe trauma comes in different shapes, sizes, and forms. At our cores, most of us want to know we are not alone in our struggles, whatever they may be, and I see therapy as a partnership where I walk alongside my clients toward healing and growth. I believe strongly in client self-determination and see it as my responsibility to get to know you and start from where you are. I utilize a client centered approach with CBT, DBT, and solution-focused techniques while also incorporating creativity including art, writing, and play to express feelings that are not always easy to verbalize. And because of my social work beginning, I am not shy about suggesting different resources to help in all areas of your life.
If you’re looking for a therapist who listens, empowers, and walks alongside you, I’d love to help you evolve into the person you aspire to be.
